Pickup, and what it means

I come to you and the lesson starts where you are. It does not start with twenty minutes of driving to somewhere useful — on a first lesson I will drive us to somewhere quiet and swap over, and that time is not charged.

Outside the area?

Edge districts carry a £5 travel charge confirm and anything past about eight miles I will probably say no to, because the drive makes the lesson worse value for you. If you are past that, ask anyway — I would rather recommend someone nearer than ignore you.

Test centres

Where you would actually sit the test

Which centre you book changes your odds, because the routes differ. I teach on the real routes for whichever one you choose — but choose it for the waiting list first and the routes second, because a test in nine weeks at a hilly centre beats a test in six months at a flat one.

CentreWhat the routes are like From M13 9DP
Manchester (Cheetham Hill)Alderglen Road, Cheetham, M8 0AL Dense urban routes, trams, bus lanes and a lot of junction work in a small area. Step-free, and one of only two nearby centres that also runs the ADI Part 2 test. ≈ 3 miles — nearest
Manchester (West Didsbury)Unit 11, Christie Park, M21 7QY Busy residential routes, tight parking, a lot of parked-car work and the Princess Road dual carriageway. Car tests and ADI Part 3. ≈ 4 miles
BredburyLingard Lane, Bredbury, Stockport, SK6 2QT Hills, and real ones. If you are weak on hill starts and gradient control, this is the centre that finds out. Also does motorcycle, lorry and bus tests, so the car park is busy. ≈ 6 miles
ChaddertonBroadway Business Park, Chadderton, Oldham, OL9 9XA Business-park surroundings and faster suburban roads out towards Oldham. Worth a look if the closer centres have long waits. ≈ 7 miles
Sale36–38 Poplar Grove, Sale, M33 7ER Wider roads and a calmer feel than West Didsbury, which is why waiting lists there run long. Expect the Sale ring road and some fast 40s. Step-free, and runs ADI Part 2. ≈ 7 miles

Centres and addresses checked against GOV.UK's “Find a driving test centre” for M13 9DP on 7 October 2026, and listed in the order it returned, which is by distance. The mileages are approximate and waiting times change constantly — check those on GOV.UK the week you book. Pass rates are published per centre by the DVSA; I have deliberately not quoted any here, because a centre's overall pass rate tells you about its routes, not about you.

Not sure which centre to book?

Tell me where you live and when you need to have passed, and I will tell you which centre I would book and why.

No charge for the first call, and no sales pitch on it. If I am not the right instructor for you I will say so.
